The Aberdeen Dance Company won five national titles last month.

When the Aberdeen Dance Company competed at the national level last month, it didn't win a championship.

It won five.

The Aberdeen High School program competed at the CANAM National Dance Team Championships on March 16 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The student dancers returned home with national championships in Senior Hip Hop, Senior Jazz, Senior Lyrical, Senior Variety and Senior Open.

Aberdeen took fourth in Senior Pom.

"They also were the highest scoring senior dance team of the entire competition," dance teacher Amy Ferrigno told Patch

"These students are part of the dance program offered at Aberdeen High School as an art credit toward graduation," Ferrigno said. "This is a class they take within their school schedule which allows them to be involved in other activities. For example, two  of the girls were on the championship girls basketball team, as well as one of the managers."

Members of the team include: Charice Scruggs, Elise Galloway, Audrena Henry, Lakeia Hayden, Erica Worthy, Jozlynn Kelly, Shannon Whiteford, Chamyre Hynson, Ariana Tatuem, Charnika Dyson, Leah Talbott, Tameera Turner, Charice Scruggs, Demetri Simms, Ajina King, Stephen Lyons, Hannah Hiob, Ronnivea Winder, Katile Conley, Taylor Robertshaw, Heather Lilly, Natalie Muneses, Dominique Overman, Jasmine Holder, Asia Jackson, Delaney Todd, Jeo Fernandez, Promise Johnson, Ayanna Lattimore, Alexus Lewis, and Brook-lynn Williams.

These kids are fantasic and have put their hearts and souls into preparing for this competition. They truly deserve the rewards they received! If you have not seen them dance you should attend the Spring Dance Concert on May 17th or 18th at AHS. This team earned a bid also for the U.S. Finals in Virginia Beach and hopefully the Board of Ed. will ALLOW them to go and represent AHS and all of Harford Co. Schools! Congratulations again to some of my favorite kids and an awesome coach!
