Eagles Girls Repeat As Girls Basketball State Champs

Aberdeen and River Hill met for the second straight year at UMBC's RAC Arena.

The Eagles girls are soaring once more.

Aberdeen defeated River Hill, 51-47, to win the MPSSAA Class 3A state basketball championship Saturday night at UMBC's RAC Arena.

Kierra Palmer led the Eagles with 22 points in a comeback victory.

River Hill led, 28-18, at the half, but Aberdeen used a strong start to the fourth quarter to repeat last year's victory over the Hawks.

It's the second state championship in the program's history in the Eagles third consecutive trip to the finals.

Aberdeen accomplished the repeat playing more than half its season without its top player—6-foot-3 senior post player Bri Jones, who will play at the University of Maryland after recovering from surgery to repair a torn knee ligament.

Aberdeen finishes its season 23-1 and River Hill (23-4) finishes as the runner-up for a second straight March.

Last night my family and I witnessed Maryland Sports History! What a Game... Brilliant Coaching {Head Coach Ms. Amber Milnes, Assistant Coaches; Mr. Hikam Hibbert, Ms. Jamie Krukowski and Mr. Michael Jones}, Outstanding Team Play (LADY EAGLES NEVER QUIT) and the Heart of Champions was experienced by all physically there in attendance!

The exceptional game plan and half time adjustments made by the Eagle Coaching Staff allowed the Eagles to “SOAR” away with close but solid victory with only seconds remaining in the game. What I witnessed as a Coach and a Fan of Basketball was the making of a “Basketball Dynasty”...

These girls are poised to go down in History as perhaps the GREATEST GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM in the State of Maryland… They conjure up memories of the legendary Teams in Maryland folklore; Dunbar (Public School) and Dematha (Private School). So just like those programs, SUCCESS breeds SUCCESS and if you build it, they will come and keep coming! Just Watch & See As I Did :o)
