Eagles Girls Seek State Title Repeat Tonight

The Aberdeen girls basketball team will try to repeat as MPSSAA state champions when they face River Hill at 8 p.m. on Saturday at UMBC's RAC Arena.

Aberdeen will look to repeat when it plays River Hill in the Class 3A state championship Saturday.

The Eagles (22-1) advanced with a 71-50 semifinal win against Damascus on Friday to set up a rematch with the Hawks for the state crown. Aberdeen defeated River Hill, 62-48, to win the title last March.

Aberdeen (22-1) and River Hill (23-3) meet at 8 p.m. Saturday at UMBC's RAC Arena.

It'll be a matchup of Aberdeen's stellar offense against River Hill's tight defense.

Aberdeen has won its four playoff games by an average of 73-44. River Hill won its four games by an average score of 51-29.

Aberdeen has played in the state tournament four times prior, winning the championship last March after losing the final in 2011. The Eagles also reached the semifinals in 2002 and 2003.
