Abuse Charges Dropped Against Child Care Provider

The Cecil County's State's Attorney's office has dropped second-degree assault and child abuse charges against an Aberdeen day care owner.

The Cecil County State's Attorney has dropped charges of child abuse and second-degree assault that were filed earlier this month in Harford County against Yvette A. Allen, an Aberdeen day care provider.

"It was a discretionary action to dismiss the charges at this time," Cecil County State's Attorney Edward D. E. Rollins said on Wednesday.

Rollins said an investigation is still ongoing into the matter.

Allen, 34, of the unit block of Morning Dove Court, was arrested on March 8 and charged with child abuse and second-degree assault. Police charging documents alleged that Allen, whose day care license was suspended a day after her arrest, hit a 3-year-old in her care.

Rollins would not elaborate on why the charges were dropped.

On Monday, Harford County Deputy State’s Attorney Dee Brooks said the case had been transferred to the Cecil County State's Attorney's office because of "a potential conflict with a possible witness in the case." Yvette Allen’s husband is a deputy in the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
