UPDATED: Conowingo Dam Reopened After Crash

Route 1 at the Conowingo Dam was closed to traffic Friday evening.

 

UPDATED (10:20 p.m.)—An accident left one injured and closed traffic Friday evening on U.S. Route 1 over the Conowingo Dam near Darlington.

Traffic was shut down for a time Friday evening, but was re-opened as of 10:15 p.m., according to the duty officer at the North East barrack of the Maryland State Police.

The accident took place around 7 p.m. Friday on the Conowingo Dam, which carries U.S. Route 1 over the Susquehanna River.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association, told Patch that one patient was transported to an area hospital after the crash. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear, but emergency crews had to extricate one passenger trapped in a vehicle.
