Allenson is in his first season as the IronBirds manager. He has major league coaching experience, and recently served as the manager with Class AAA Norfolk in the Orioles' farm system.

Allenson is the sixth manager in club history, following Leo Gomez (24-51 in 2011), Gary Kendall (100-123 in 2008-2010), Andy Etchebarren (102-124 in 2005-2007), Don Buford (35-40 in 2004) and Joe Almaraz (69-83 in 2002-2003).

He served as the Orioles third base coach in 2010, replacing Juan Samuel, who was promoted to interim manager when then-manager Dave Trembley was fired.

Allenson served as a coach with the Brewers and Red Sox in the major leagues.
