The commuter situation for getting to the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and DC are only half of the problem. The local commuter situation for getting around Harford County is awful as well.
Many years ago when I worked in Baltimore, it was easier for me to drive to White Marsh and pick up the bus into Baltimore from there than it was for me to find a bus stop along Rt 40. The busses seemed to run only once an hour, so if you missed your time you had no chance of getting to work on time. If there were busses that ran from areas of Harford County into White Marsh (a major MTA bus hub), they could run more frequently and more people would be able to use them.
As for the Harford County Link system, my daughter's friends live in Edgewood and attend Harford Community College. They must get on a bus at 6:15 AM and change busses twice in order to arrive at HCC for an 8:00 class. I'm not so sure they couldn't walk from Edgewood to HCC in that amount of time. It shocks me that with so many students at HCC (and the accompanying parking issues) that there aren't direct lines from several parts of the county going to the college and at more convenient times for the students.

I totally agree with you John Smith. Every one is nicle and diming important issues. Transportation is so lacking in Harford County and with the system that they have now it has the great possibility of being redesigned to make work properly. When I was working in Baltimore. I did not like the commuter bus system that ran on Rt. 40. I opted to ride to White Marsh and take the bus there. White Marsh had a few problems; but I was able to correct some of them with Petition dfrives - I was known as the "Mad Lady of the White Marsh Express/120. A well-planned and designed transportation system would help everyon in Harford County; but the County does not want to spend the money. I understand that money is tight everywhere; but when it comes to our future and the education of children -getting our children to chool to increase their knowledge so that they will become productive members of society = THERE IS NO QUESTION OF WHAT WE MUST DO, We have the jobs in Harford County; but DON'T have thansportation to get employees to woek. You wonder why crime is inceasing. NO JOBS; NO MONEY. I REALLY IT'S AN INVESTMENT THAT THE COUNTY SHOULD MAKE KNOW; WE MAY BE SPENDING MONEY NOW; BUT IN THE LONG RUN IT WILL MEAN MORE TAX REVENUE.

I agree also! I used to take the Amtrak or Marc Train from ABE to downtown Baltimore. I was either an hour early or 15 minutes late because there were only two trains per day that traveled from ABE to Baltimore Penn Station. NOW, I work in Towson and the commute takes just as long. There are NO COMMUTER BUSES to Towson from Harford County which is a source of irritation for me. People think that it's just a short drive to Towson but I live in Havre de Grace and it takes me one hour each way. I'd rather give my money to the bus company and get some work done while someone else is driving me, than waste my gas dollars on commuting in my own car. Can't anyone help???
