Council To Vote on Habitat for Humanity Tax Credit
City Council is expected to vote on the adoption of the Habitat for Humanity tax credit ordinance.
Aberdeen City Council is expected to vote on the adoption of the Habitat for Humanity tax credit ordinance at Monday's 7 p.m. council meeting.
Most people who spoke during the hearing at the last council meeting supported a 100 percent credit on city property taxes for properties owned by Habitat for Humanity. Karen Heavey, an Aberdeen planning and zoning committee member, suggested putting a cap on what the city should give in forgiveness.
There are 46 rehabbed and newly built homes sponsored by Habitat for Humanity in Aberdeen, according to Joanne Blewitt, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity in Harford County.
Also, a council liaisons ordinance is expected to be introduced during the meeting.
