A South Carolina man was shot in the arm during a Friday night function at the VFW post 6054 in Perryman, police said.

The victim and witnesses of the crime, however, have not cooperated with investigators, Monica Worrell, public information officer with the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said Monday.

Around 2:18 a.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies were called to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air to investigate a shooting report, Worrell said. Hospital staff contacted law enforcement after a male resident of Manning, SC, was brought to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

He was visiting relatives in the area and had attended an event at the VFW post at 206 Spesutia Road. He told police he heard yelling before he was shot in the arm, Worrell said.

The victim was taken from Upper Chesapeake to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He has since been released and returned home to South Carolina, Worrell said.

"It does not appear to be a random act, however, it's very early in the investigative process. We are working to determine if the suspect and victim knew each other," Worrell said.

She added it's too soon to tell whether the shooting was related to either gang or drug activity.
