Harford County Approves Aberdeen High Scoreboard

Aberdeen High School may have a new scoreboard before the end of the football season.

After the ball was fumbled and bounced around a few times, the Harford County Board of Education scooped it up Monday, voting in favor of a new scoreboard at Aberdeen High School.

Just about a year after it turned down a $20,000 donation by Aberdeen alums E.J. and Erin Henderson, the Board of Education adopted an agenda item gifting a $45,000 scoreboard to the alma mater of the NFL linebackers.

The scoreboard itself will cost $36,055, with another $8,980 allotted for the installation.

The Hendersons said after the board rejected the proposal that they had also planned to fund further upgrades to the stadium, which existed before the new school was built in 2004.

The purchasing of the scoreboard became the responsibility of the local school community and was coordinated under the HCPS School/Organization Sponsored Project process.

No set date on the start of the project was mentioned at Monday's Board of Education meeting.

The Eagles are 1-1 heading into Fridays game at Elkton. The home opener for Aberdeen is Sept. 21 against Joppatowne.

Great news! When the Hendersons were first turned down I thought AHS was just shot down again. I'm very pleased the the board finally saw the generosity and is letting AHS benefit as other HCPS high schools have.
Thank you Hendersons! You are a positive example to our kids!
