UPDATED (11:55 p.m.)—Strong storms hit Harford County late Friday night and early Saturday morning, and about 3,500 BGE customers remained without power late Saturday night.

As of 11:51 p.m., BGE reported 3,532 customers in Harford County remained without power, while another 6,795 had been restored since storm operations began around 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

That's after 4,965 outages at 9:47 p.m., 4,800 outages at 2:51 p.m., 5,865 outages at 12:46 p.m., 5,955 customers waiting for restoration as of 10:36 a.m., and nearly 7,000 without power as of 9 a.m.

With about a half-million customers impacted throughout the region, Gov. Martin O'Malley delcared a state of emergency Saturday.

Arbutus Patch reported some outages may take days before restoration. 

Harford County Public Libraries are offering branches as cooling centers Saturday.

Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner told Patch that the county sustained downed trees and power lines. He said there were reports of power lines on fire in some locations, and high water in localized areas.

But he added the "call volume for fire companies wasn't as high as other surrounding jurisdictions."

In Baltimore County, Towson Patch reported trees were down and thousands of BGE customers were without power.

Harford County is under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday. Temperatures may hit 105 degrees by Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are advised to stay out of the sun and in air conditioned facilities whenever possible.

The extreme heat is expected to carry into Sunday.

Harford County will open cooling centers on Sunday at Bel Air and Abingdon Volunteer Fire Companies. The Bel Air house is located at 109 South Hickory Avenue. The Abingdon facility is at 3306 Abingdon Road. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
