I-95 Pedestrian Death Ruled Suicide
A Howard County woman allegedly stepped into traffic on Interstate 95 Thursday night.
Maryland State Police have declared Thursday night's pedestrian fatality on Interstate 95 a suicide.
Christine Elizabeth Eldin, 46, of West Friendship, was pronounced dead on the scene after being struck by a northbound vehicle on Interstate 95 near Aberdeen, Maryland State police said in a news release.
Eldin was struck by a 2012 Dodge Van driven by Paththini Wickramarathne of Long Beach, CA at the 85.5 mile marker after she stepped into the path of the vehicle in the left lane, police said.
Eldin's vehicle was found parked on the left shoulder, containing letters that indicated she intentionally stepped into traffic to commit suicide.
The release stated that Wickramarathne was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Interstate 95 was closed for approximately three hours following the incident.
The news of the accident was first reported by Patch at 9:20 p.m. Thursday.
