IronBirds to Host IronFest This Weekend

The free event Saturday will include the final round of the competition to find Ripken Stadium's new announcer and a Q&A with manager Matt Merullo.

The Aberdeen IronBirds will lead the 2013 season with the annual IronFest Saturday at Ripken Stadium.

The free event will include a Q&A on the club level with new manager Matt Merullo, the opportunity for kids to take the field, and the final round of The Voice, the club's competition to find its new public address announcer.

The top eight vote-getting finalists will compete in front of a panel of celebrity judges.

Country musician Chris Monaghan will also perform.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets for 2013 games will be on sale at the event. The IronBirds, an Orioles short-season class-A affiliate, open the season June 17, when they host the first in a three-game set against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
