A 29-year-old man has been charged with sexually and physically assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Gerald Joseph Hazelwood, 29, of the 300 block of North Philadelphia Boulevard, was charged with second-degree rape, second- and third-degree sex offense and second-degree assault. He is currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center, according to an Aberdeen Police Department news release.

The teenager's mother reported to police that her daughter was assaulted at a friend's home on Jan. 26, according to the news release.

"The victim knew Hazelwood prior to the assault," Lt. Fred Brudnick, a spokesman for the Aberdeen Police Department, stated in the release.
