Aberdeen City Council met Monday evening at City Hall, covering a number of topics, but recognizing three individuals in particular.

Aberdeen Mayor Michael Bennett presented Aberdeen High School junior Cora Summerfield with a recognition and a Most Valuable Person award. Summerfield won the 100 butterfly event at the MPSSAA state swim championship.

Bennett also proclaimed March 27 as American Diabetes Day in the City of Aberdeen, recognizing Sharon Sheppe in the process. Sheppe, who has lost three close family members to diabetes, spoke briefly on the need for a cure for the disease.

Finally, City Clerk Monica Correll was recognized for being honored as the 2012 Municipal Clerk of the Year for the State of Maryland. Correll was recognized by her peers with the award.
