Light Fixed, Route 22 Reopened After Crash in Aberdeen

The crash happened before 9 a.m. Thursday, closing eastbound MD Route 22.

 

UPDATE (10:15 p.m., Jan. 15)—A traffic light has been repaired and traffic was flowing normally Tuesday evening, about 12 hours after a crash snarled traffic on MD Route 22 in Aberdeen.


Update as of noon:
The incident on MD Route 22 at Middleton Road in Aberdeen has been cleared as of 11:30 a.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Eastbound MD Route 22 is closed at Middleton Road for an accident and westbound traffic is getting by at a slow pace.

Harford County Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner wrote on the organization's Facebook page at approximately 9 a.m. that the crash on Aberdeen Thruway closed traffic heading from Interstate 95 toward U.S. Route 40 and Aberdeen Proving Ground.

One person was trapped in the crash, Gardiner said.

Officials from the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police and the State Highway Administration were on the scene just before 10 a.m. working on cleanup.

Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Company handled the crash, Gardiner said.

For an alternate route to reach Aberdeen Proving Ground, take Beards Hill Road to West Bel Air Avenue.

As of 11:45, the traffic lights on Rt. 22 were still out, and may be for some time. The crash completely destroyed the signal control box at the intersection.
