CANstruction returns to White Marsh Mall!

CANstruction has returned to White Marsh Mall for another competition to benefit Maryland's families in need.

It’s back for the second year! The exciting time of year where Baltimore’s best and brightest (not to mention most creative) architects, engineers, contractors, designers and students gather, going head to head in the AIA Baltimore CANstruction design competition at White Marsh Mall!

The building began this past weekend on Sunday, May 19, 2013 and each team really outdid themselves this year! They were required to build a piece of artwork using only canned food, but the designs were only limited by their imagination and creativity!

The artwork will be left on display at White Marsh Mall for all to admire until Saturday, June 8. After which, all of the cans will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank to help those in our community in need of food assistance.

This year, we have three amazing sculptures. First up, are The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and Melville Thomas Architects with the “Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookie Box”.

Next, Hord Coplan Macht, Inc. Architects put together a beautiful and unique design they call "Lily Pad Lunch".

And lastly, RJN Group Inc. Consulting Engineering Services show just how easy it is to give to those in need with their sculpture "Helping the Maryland Food Bank is a Piece of Cake."

Although the competition may be fun and exciting, it is important to remember that, ultimately, it is for a very good cause. More than 516,000 people in Maryland live below the poverty line and the donated food not only give them hope, but also a warm meal on the table.

So don't forget to come out to see these incredible creations, but show support for your fellow Marylanders.
