Dad Returns From Kuwait, Surprises Aberdeen Family at Ballgame

Edward Byars had been stationed in Kuwait for almost a year.

Bryce Byars took the mound at Cal Sr.'s Yard on Saturday, throwing out the first pitch before a Cal Ripken World Series game.

Little did Bryce, 6, know, the man donning the catcher's gear behind the plate was Edward Byars—his father, who had been deployed in Kuwait for 11 months.

After the pitch, Edward removed his mask, and surprised his Aberdeen family—his wife, Marion, 13-year-old daughter Brianna, and Bryce—in a moment that those in attendance will never forget.

The moment came before Saturday's game between the Maryland representatives from Calvert County, and the Mountain Home, AR team.

The Byars are a host family for Team Canada.
