Five Things For Saturday (Darlington Firworks; IronBirds Try To Win)
The IronBirds wrap up a three game series with the Staten Island Yankees tonight.
1. IronBirds lose seven straight
The IronBirds report from team spokesman Towney Godfrey: "Losers of seven straight games, the Aberdeen IronBirds will try to avoid their second consecutive sweep tonight against the Staten Island Yankees (Short Season-A affiliate of the New York Yankees). Up 5-3 in the ninth inning last night, the IronBirds surrendered three runs on just two hits, allowing the Yankees to take the lead and eventually win. Tonight, Aberdeen will ask Matt Drummond to try to stop the bleeding. A 20th round pick in last year’s draft, Drummond struck out six in four innings in his only start this year at Brooklyn. He’ll go up against right-hander Wilton Rodriguez."

"Despite the loss, the IronBirds set season-highs last night in a number of offensive categories. Aberdeen set new season-highs in hits (15) and home runs (3) in a game. It was also the first time an IronBirds hitter blasted two home runs in a game (Jeremy Nowak) and the first time this season IronBirds hitters hit back-to-back homers (Nowak and Wynston Sawyer).
