Mr. Alvarez, president of the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore, is a lifelong Baltimorean. Mr. Alvarez will be speaking on the life and times of Edgar Allan Poe and of the status of Baltimore’s Poe House. A 1976 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School, Rafael Alvarez was a City
Desk reporter for the Baltimore Sun for 20 years and wrote for the HBO police drama, "The Wire." His books include Hometown Boy, and Storyteller, both of which will be on sale at the event. Guests of the event will be able to view a rarely exhibited piece of Poe family history from the artifact collection of the Historical Society. A dessert tea will accompany the lecture. Reservations for the tea are required in advance. Tickets are $8 per person. Lecture only reservations are free and will be available at the door or in advance. Call 410-838-7691.
