"We would be absolutely thrilled to be an organization in Harford County winning this award up against a lot of larger organizations in Baltimore," she said. "To do it, we need the support of the entire Harford County community."

This is the first year for Liberty Mutual's "Like My Community" campaign, and Baltimore, along with Milwaukee and Dallas, were chosen to pioneer the first program.

Dana Temple, a local agent with Liberty Mutual, nominated Harford Family House for the campaign and said she wanted to support a charity in Harford County, an area where she lives and works.

"I was looking for something that would be local, and then something that would help out families, because I have a child at home," Temple said.

The organization is known for keeping entire families together in transitional housing apartments, which are furnished and supplied by donations from the community.

"We are definitely largely supported by the community and couldn't do what we do without the community," Barry said. "This is just another way the community can get behind us and help us get some financial resources to help the families."

As of Monday morning, Harford Family House is in fourth place, with more than 7,100 votes.
