Harford Family House Honored By Maryland Comptroller Franchot

Comptroller Peter Franchot was in Aberdeen Friday, honoring the Harford Family House and the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department.

The Harford Family House is in the business of helping people.

Friday, the organization was recognized for being the most helpful group in Harford County.

Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot awarded the nonprofit the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award.

"Only one organization in each county receives this award each year," Harford Family House Executive Director/CEO Joyce Duffy wrote in an email to Patch.

Joining Duffy to accept the honor from the Comptroller were Scott Elliott, President, Board of Director’s for Harford Family House; Cecilia Helmstetter from the United Way; Aberdeen Mayor Michael Bennett; State Del. Glen Glass; Harford County Councilman Dion Guthrie; Harford County Councilman Richard “Coach” Slutzky; and Debbie Button, aide to County Councilman James McMahan.

In an email to Patch, Harford Family House Director of Operations Mary Barry said: "Harford Family House is honored to have been selected by the MD Comptroller’s office to receive the William Donald Shaffer Good Neighbor Award for our work in helping homeless families in our community get back on their feet. This award is the result of the hard work of the staff, board and volunteers who help make Harford Family House a strong, community oriented organization."
