Home Runs for the Homeless Still Needs Participants

Harford Family House's annual fundraiser is looking for six players.

Who needs to go on vacation when you can have a big league fantasy right here in Aberdeen?

Harford Mutual Home Runs for the Homeless still needs a team and a half, or six players, to round out the roster.

The event will take place Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at  to raise money for Harford Family House, the Aberdeen-based family homeless shelter. Twenty teams are slated to participate in the third annual charity event this year.

Teams of four batters have 15 attempts to hit a home run. The team that racks up the most yardage will earn the "2011 Champion" title and a trophy.

Joyce Duffy, executive director at Harford Family House, said businesses and individual players are welcome to sign up for the event.

“Businesses can come out and have an enjoyable day while supporting families,” she said.

There are still six slots open for which players can sign up until Friday, Aug. 5.

Mayor Michael Bennett, this year’s honorary chairman of Harford Mutual Home Runs for the Homeless, is expected to throw out the first pitch.

The public is invited to cheer on the players.

The cost to participate is $250 per person, or $1000 per team.

Participants are invited to an awards dinner at the upper deck of Ripken Stadium. Guests can be accommodated for a $50 donation.

To sign up either as an individual or as a team, call Joyce Duffy at 410-273-6700, or email her at jduffy@harfordfamiylhouse.org.
