2. ELKS BREAKFAST

A special Saturday breakfast will be held. The menu include pancakes, french toast, chipped beef and toast, coffee and juice, is available. All for $6.  Come out and enjoy before heading to the decoy show.

3. Open House at Gunpowder Falls State Park

Where: 1820 Monkton Rd., Monkton, MD 21111

Monkton Station in Gunpowder Falls State Park holds an Open House with live animals and nature crafts. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Call 410-592-2897 for more details.

4. Rediscover Rock Run: Nature and History Collide

Where: 801 Stafford Rd., Havre de Grace, MD 21078

Date: May 7, 2011

Time: 1 p.m.–4 p.m.

The Rock Run Historic Area of Susquehanna State Park reopens on Memorial Day weekend. On May 7th, though, park staff will allow visitors a sneak peek. Activities include mansion tours, mill grinding demonstrations, live animals kids fish for fun, picnicking, etc. Call 410-734-9035 for more details.

5. Howard County/Iron Bridge Steeplechasing Event

Where: 4389 Jennings Chapel Rd., Brookeville, MD 20833

Date: May 7, 2011

Time: 2 p.m.

The Howard County Iron Bridge Race Meet will be held on Saturday, May 7 at Pleasant Prospect Farm. The event includes timber racing, pony racing, and tailgate picnics. General Parking is $25 per car. Gates open at 10 a.m., the tailgate contest is at noon, and post time is 2 p.m.

9. DC Design House

The 2011 DC Design House is open April 9-May 8 at 3134 Ellicott St. NW. All proceeds benefit Children's National Medical Center.

The 2011 DC Design House Designers include: Scott Brinitzer, Iantha Carley, Nancy Colbert, Barbara Franceski, Samantha Friedman, Jason Hodges, Liz Levin, Lauren Liess, Gary Lovejoy, Allie Mann/Case Design, Cindy McClure, David Mitchell, Erin Paige Pitts, Jeff Potter, James Rill/Rill Architects, Camille Saum, Whitney Stewart, Nadia Subaran/Aidan Design, Patrick Sutton, and Denise Willard.

This year's home is a 1925 12,000-square-foot English Country Tudor on an acre of land in Forest Hills, owned by the Wasserman family and on the market for $4.9 million. The late George Wasserman was a local businessman and philanthropic force in the community, including co-founding the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. The home was originally built for Charles Woodward, founder of Woodward & Lothrop department store chain, and was the site of numerous high profile gatherings where movie stars, such as Kirk Douglas, politicians and dignitaries, such as Lady and Lord Balfour, attended. The 4th Annual DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center, raising more than $200,000 for the hospital last year.

Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays.

Tickets are $20 per person at door/online, one time admission. Restrictions: No food or drink, children under age 8 including infants, photography, pets or high heels. Not wheelchair accessible.
