2011 DC Design House is open April 9-May 8 at 3134 Ellicott St. NW. All proceeds
benefit Children's National Medical Center.
The 2011 DC Design House Designers include: Scott Brinitzer, Iantha Carley, Nancy
Colbert, Barbara Franceski, Samantha Friedman, Jason Hodges, Liz Levin, Lauren
Liess, Gary Lovejoy, Allie Mann/Case Design, Cindy McClure, David Mitchell,
Erin Paige Pitts, Jeff Potter, James Rill/Rill Architects, Camille Saum,
Whitney Stewart, Nadia Subaran/Aidan Design, Patrick Sutton, and Denise
Willard.
This year's home is a 1925 12,000-square-foot English Country Tudor on an acre of
land in Forest Hills, owned by the Wasserman family and on the market for $4.9
million. The late George Wasserman was a local businessman and philanthropic
force in the community, including co-founding the Hebrew Home of Greater
Washington. The home was originally built for Charles Woodward, founder of
Woodward & Lothrop department store chain, and was the site of numerous
high profile gatherings where movie stars, such as Kirk Douglas, politicians
and dignitaries, such as Lady and Lord Balfour, attended. The 4th Annual
DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center, raising more
than $200,000 for the hospital last year.
Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Closed on
Mondays.
Tickets are $20 per person at door/online, one time admission. Restrictions: No
food or drink, children under age 8 including infants, photography, pets or
high heels. Not wheelchair accessible.

4. CASA of Harford County Spring Volunteer Training
Where: 101 S. Main St., Bel Air, MD 21014
Date: Weekly on Saturdays and Mondays
Time: 6–9 p.m.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Harford County needs community
volunteers to advocate for the best interests of our community’s abused and
neglected children.
CASA's are community volunteers who complete 30-hours of orientation training and
serve as an advocate for children in foster care due to abuse or neglect. CASA
volunteers main role is to ensure children's educational, physical, and
emotional needs are being met, and they quickly find a safe, permanent home.
Our spring class, starting March 21, is filling up quickly, so please let us know
if you are interested in making a difference in a child's life today!
