More Snow on the Way for Aberdeen

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Harford County and other parts of Maryland.

Keep those shovels handy—parts of Maryland could see more snow this weekend, and Aberdeen is among them.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for northern Maryland from 4 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday. Areas expected to be impacted include Harford, Carroll, Frederick and northern Baltimore counties.

A winter storm watch means snow, sleet or ice may accumulate and affect travel. Harford County could see up to five inches of snow and one-tenth inch of ice, the National Weather Service reported.

The State Highway Administration said its crews would be out "before the first flake falls and will remain on duty until state roads are cleared," in a statement Friday afternoon. Its goal was for most travel lanes to be cleared within four to six hours after the precipitation stops.

Snow will begin before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, which said one to two inches may accumulate in Aberdeen. The weather service noted there was uncertainty about the exact amount of precipitation in the forecast.

Snow was expected to change to sleet and freezing rain between 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday before changing to rain by Sunday morning, according to the forecast. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s overnight with a high of 34 degrees Saturday, the weather service said.

One official urged citizens to stay off the road once the wintry mix starts to fall.

“...during the storm please stay OFF the roads and let the plow drivers do their work," State Highway Administrator Melinda B. Peters said. "If crews are tending to disabled vehicles and crashes, they cannot treat and plow the roads.”
