Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Harford County

Harford County is one of several counties in Maryland under a winter weather advisory on Sunday.

One to two inches of snow may fall between Sunday and Monday mornings, with two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulating, according to National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory means snow, sleet and freezing rain will make travel a challenge, according to the weather service, which advised drivers to be prepared for slick roads, icy conditions and limited visibility Sunday into Monday morning.

Power outages are also possible since the mixture of "snow and ice has the potential to coat trees and tree limbs, which may then fall onto power lines..." Carol Dodson, vice president of BGE, said. "Some outages may be extended if hazardous road conditions delay our crews’ ability to travel and begin restoration work."

Harford County Public Schools canceled activities at schools Sunday. All county parks and recreation activities were also called off, Harford County Fire & EMS said.

After snow Sunday morning, the precipitation will change to sleet and freezing rain by the afternoon, according to Harford County Fire & EMS.

"At this time, the Emergency Management Team is monitoring the situation closely, as significant icing is possible," Harford County Fire & EMS reported.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Charles, Harford and Prince George's counties.
