Sheryl Davis Kohl Honored With Future 50 Award

Sheryl Davis Kohl, president of Beacon Staffing Alternatives, received Baltimore SmartCEO's Future 50 Award at a ceremony on January 23 at the Hunt Valley Inn. Baltimore SmartCEO's Future 50 recognizes fast-growing companies in the Greater Baltimore area. This year marks the second time Kohl received the award, being honored also in 2012.

Beacon Staffing Alternatives, Inc., located in Aberdeen, is a 100 percent women-owned, strategic staffing organization that specializes in administrative staffing, IT staffing and logistics support. The company was founded in 1999 and has become the area's most reputable, well-connected and successful temporary staffing company.

"What an honor it is to be recognized as one of Baltimore SmartCEO's Future 50," said Kohl. "At Beacon Staffing Alternatives, we strive to help business owners find the right people to help their companies grow and succeed. Receiving the Future 50 Award shows how our company is also growing and succeeding. All of us are grateful to receive the honor."

Kohl, a resident of Abingdon, is active in the community. Currently she serves on the executive committee of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce's board of directors and on the organization's legislative committee. She is treasurer of the Susquehanna Workforce Network; past president and current board member at Harford Community Action Agency; a member of the personnel advisory board for Harford County Government; board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County; and chaplain of the tech support unit for Abingdon Fire Company. She also served as a member of the House of Delegates, representing District 34A, from 2005-07.

In addition to winning the Future 50 Award twice, Kohl has received numerous other honors. She received the Athena Award in 2006; was named to the Top 100 MBE Companies in Maryland in 2006 and 2012; and was honored as one of The Daily Record's Maryland's Top 100 Women in 2010 and 2013.

The Future 50 Awards honor 50 fast-growth, mid-sized companies in the region, five large Blue Chip companies and five small Emerging Growth companies. The companies represent the future of the region's economy and embody the entrepreneurial spirit critical for leadership and success. The winners are chosen based on a three-year average of employee and revenue growth. This year's Future 50 winners collectively generate $2.3 billion in annual revenue and employ 14,945 staffers.
