Maryland Republican State Delegate Glen Glass Fights Death Penalty Repeal

Death Penalty Repeal

Last Friday in the Judiciary Committee we dealt with death penalty repeal.  I voted against the bill and offered an amendment to which would have allowed prosecutors to seek the death penalty in the case of a double murder.

Although I am offended by people being falsely accused I believe the current DNA standards and conviction standards eliminate the likelihood that someone will be falsely convicted.

The loss of a family member is a tough occasion and the victim and family deserve justice.

Because of the nature of some these horrific crimes, I believe that the death penalty is an appropriate punishment as well as an effective deterrent for crime.  If we get rid of the death penalty what is the penalty for prisoners who murder other prisoners or correctional officers?

Since the death penalty helps prosecutors and police I voted NO in committee on the repeal and will continue to fight the repeal on the floor.
