APG Contractor Killed in Explosion at Edgewood Area
The APG Fire Department responded to an alarm and subsequent 911 call at a Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense laboratory facility.
An Abedeen Proving Ground contractor was killed Saturday afternoon in an explosion and subsequent fire at a laboratory in the Edgewood area of the installation, authorities said late Saturday.
The employee’s identity has not yet been released.
APG Public Affairs Chief George Mercer said in a prepared statement that others were working in the facility at the time, but that there was only one casualty.

“This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the work force, the rest of the Proving Ground or the surrounding community,” Mercer said in the statement.
The APG Fire Department responded to a 3 p.m. alarm and subsequent 911 call at a Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense laboratory facility. The fire was extinguished quickly and the area was secured.
