Officials Warn of Poor Air Quality Friday

Maryland Department of the Environment officials said air conditions should improve by Monday.

Air in parts of the Baltimore area will be "unhealthy for sensitive groups" Friday, Maryland Department of the Environment officials said in an alert Thursday.

The ozone level will make the air unsafe for prolonged exposure, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with heart or lung conditions. A high pressure system partly responsible will move further off the coast on Saturday, with ozone levels improving as the weekend goes on, according to the alert.

Temperatures in the area will be in the 90s on Friday and Saturday, but an incoming cold front could produce storms on Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
