When Does Daylight Saving Time Start in 2013?

It's almost time to 'spring forward' in Aberdeen. Here's some planning help.

By now, most people in Aberdeen have noticed that daylight is beginning a little earlier each morning.

That means spring and Daylight Saving Time are near. In 2013, the big shift happens on Sunday, March 10.

On that date, most of the U.S. will 'spring' clocks forward at 2 a.m., meaning, yes, that you'll lose an hour of sleep. But you'll get an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day.

And when does it end? DST will last until Nov. 3, 2013.

The change affects all states except Arizona and Hawaii.

The time change used to start four weeks later than it does now, but in 2005, President George W. Bush signed a bill that extended Daylight Saving Time to preserve energy, according to NASA's website on the topic.

Since 2007, Daylight Saving Time has started every year at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March, according to NASA.

Of course, many people would prefer that Daylight Saving Time become the norm and that time would not shift back to standard time in the fall.

A Florida legislator even introduced the "Sunshine Protection Act" in the state legislature to try to make that happen. He admits it has little chance of passing, but he wants to stimulate discussion on the topic.

Keep Daylight Savings time.

The universal justification for DST is: "I like the extra hour of daylight." To which I respond: "It's only EXTRA for lard asses that don't drag themselves out of bed before 8:00 am." Once and for all, there IS no extra hour of daylight; it is simply the same amount of daylight artificially rescheduled.

I told two of my employees that I had to lay them off yesterday. We all had a good laugh until IRead More told them it was not a joke. I did tell them that it was because of something some evil Republican congressman had done, and that seemed to make them feel a lot better.

Worst April Fools joke: the Maryland Legislature, our beloved leader M. O'Malley, and the poorRead More suffering citizens who are unfortunate to live the Peoples Republic of Maryland. It just keeps getting better and better. When will the idiots who keep voting in the same big spending, big taxing Democrats over and over again, ever learn?
