Cal Ripken World Series Host Families Wanted!

The Cal Ripken World Series takes place from Friday, August 8 - Sunday, August 17, 2014. International teams would stay with host families from Thursday, August 7 to Monday August 18 (they depart this day). The Cal Ripken World Series is an international youth baseball event. It is the only nationally televised event in Harford County.

Being a Host Family for the Cal Ripken World Series is such an amazing experience. The Host Families are such an asset to making the World Series an amazing event. They really make this event memorable not only for the fans and staff for Ripken Baseball, but also to the boys. We really couldn't pull off this event without Host Families.

One of the Dominican Host Families had such an amazing time that they shared their experience with me. I want to share their experience with you:

"We are so psyched to be a Dominican host family again! And guess what? We are taking a trip to the Dominican this year in June to see our "boys!" We miss them so much and just have to go see them. We can, as a family, say that our experience last year with the Cal Ripken World Series was by far the best thing we have ever shared as a family And now we can say that we have "family" in the Dominican Republic! I just wanted you to know how much it meant to us, and meeting those amazing boys changed our lives. Even my husband, who was skeptical before it all started, tells everyone that it was the best time of his life".

Host families are essential to making this event happen. Requirements for Host Families Include:

  • Hosting at least two players from an international team. International teams include Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, and Mexico. Team Korea and Japan are already filled for 2014.
  • Providing a place to sleep, and three meals per day for the players for the duration of their stay.
  • Transporting the players to all scheduled practices and games, on time.
A lot of people think this will be expensive to be a host family. We get grocery cards, gas cards, coupons, and discounts at local restaurants to help offset the cost of being a host family. We get laundry detergent for washing those baseball uniforms.
