Lighten Your Load in 2014:
Drop off Unwanted Items at Clear Your Clutter Day

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to reclaim your space in 2014, help may be on the horizon. On Saturday, April 26, professional organizers Sappari Solutions and Harford Community College (HCC) will host
the fourth annual Clear Your Clutter Day event at the college’s parking lot A. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., area residents can drop off one carload of items ranging from unwanted papers to plastic grocery bags to event partners for recycling or reuse.

Accepted materials at this year’s Clear Your Clutter Day include electronics and scrap metal, appliances, computers and monitors, cell phones, flattened cardboard boxes, plastic grocery bags, batteries, clothing, toys, household goods, eye glasses, hearing aids , books, like-new building supplies and tools, and like-new purses. Free paper shredding will also be provided onsite.

To help streamline the process of gathering unwanted goods, event organizers will hold a Clear Your Clutter Day Scavenger Hunt. Beginning April 1, Sappari Solutions will post one type of item per day on itsFacebook page participants can set aside to bring to Clear Your Clutter Day. Those who successfully bring all 26 Scavenger Hunt items to Clear Your Clutter Day will be entered to win a one month membership to the Bel Air Athletic Club.

“We want to help Harford County residents identify items adding to the clutter in their homes,” says Nettie Owens, event coordinator and owner of
Sappari Solutions.  “Sometimes a list of suggested items is all someone
needs to help them start the process of lessening their load.”

Last year, Sappari Solutions and HCC filled one and a half 50-foot
trailers with unwanted items and collected nearly eight tons of electronics and paper that was recycled and reused. According to Owens, “Clear Your Clutter Day would not be possible without the support of event partners and
sponsors. We would like to thank those participating with this year’s event,
including Bumble Junk, Goodwill of the Chesapeake, Shred Instead, Lions Club of Bel Air, SARC, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, Klein’s-ShopRite, HarfordSTYLE Magazine, Harford’s Heart, Downtown Bel Air Alliance, Harford County Sustainability and Recycling Office, MyWay Storage, Bel Air Athletic Club and Brand It Images.”
