The ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter is teaming up with Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, to raise money to purchase iPads for people living with ALS.

If this Grassroots campaign raises $250, matched by Mr. and Mrs. Ken and Alma Wiegand to become $500, then the ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter can purchase one iPad for a patient who is unable to communicate. The iPad allows PALS to type and save words, sentences, and phrases, and then plays them with loud, clear sound quality. Once the patient is no longer able to use the iPad, it will become part of the organization's loan closet, where it can be used to help multiple patients. Each additional $500 raised will be used to purchase another iPad to help patients who are unable to communicate.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Subscribe to Groupon (http://www.groupon.com/subscriptions/new) in Washington, DC before the campaign launch.

2. Visit the Groupon site on June 25- July 1 when the campaign launches. http://www.groupon.com/deals/grs-als-association-dc-md

3. Be the first to give by supporting the ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter and spread the word to friends and family, encouraging them to do the same.

As part of the national ALS Association, the DC/MD/VA Chapter provides help and hope to individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their families, with a mission to help treat and cure ALS through research and advocacy. The chapter's staff works to help individuals and families establish communication systems, collaborate with health-care providers, and access resources for medical care and support. I told two of my employees that I had to lay them off yesterday. We all had a good laugh until IRead More told them it was not a joke. I did tell them that it was because of something some evil Republican congressman had done, and that seemed to make them feel a lot better.
