BGE Gives $15K to Harford County Boys & Girls Club

The money will support STEM participation.

Officials from BGE presented a check to the Harford County Boys & Girls Club in Aberdeen this week to help promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education.

Through a program called “i3STEM: image, invent, inspire,” the Boys & Girls Club plans to increase students' participation in STEM-related fields after high school.

As a goal, the Boys & Girls Club will track students who begin the STEM program through the pipeline in hopes that 6 percent enter college committed to a major in science, technology, engineering or math.

The $15,000 will go toward Harford County Boys & Girls Club classes, mentoring, team activities, tutoring and family participation that will support students in STEM pursuits, according to a press release from BGE.

“The clubs are committed to serving and meeting the needs of young people of Harford County, especially in STEM education," Tim Willis, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford County, said in the release.

Said Willis: "Corporate support from companies like BGE ensures that every child has the ability to learn, grow and realize their own great futures.”
