6/19: IronBirds-Renegades Game Preview

After dropping the first two games of the 2013 season to the Hudson Valley Renegades, the IronBirds look to avoid the sweep and get some payback after last night's 5-10 Loss, and head to Brooklyn with a win tonight at Ripken Stadium.

Last night, the IronBirds took a 2-0 after two Innings before the Renegades tied the game in the 3rd at 2-2, and then exploded for 6 runs in the 4th Inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The Renegades tacked on two more runs in the 7th and IronBirds 3B Hector Veloz hit a 3-run HR in the 8th inning, final score at 10-5 HV. The IronBirds got superb outings from Janser Severino ( 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K) and Harry Marino ( 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) out of the bullpen in relief of Starter David Richardson, who was impressive the first two innings of the night, but gave up the lead in the 3rd and got shelled in the 4th, ending the night having allowed 6 hits and 7 earned runs while striking out 5 in 3.1 Innings. The Renegades were led by LHP Chris Kirsch ( 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 K) And DH Ryan McChesney (4-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI).

RHP Luc Rennie will get the start ( And make his IronBirds debut) on Wednesday Night. The 19-year-old was a 16th round pick by the O's in 2012 out of Torrey Pines HS (San Diego, California), and posted a 1-1 record with a 3.04 ERA in 12 games for the GCL Orioles in 2012, while recording 27 K's in 26.2 IP.

RHP John Farrell will get the start and also make his professional baseball debut tonight for the Renegades. The 22-year-old is a native of Andover, Mass. and was a 21st round pick out of William&Mary by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2013 MLB draft.

Now, here's a couple of notes on the IronBirds before tonight's game:

- Along with making his IronBirds debut, Luc Rennie is also making his first professional baseball start!

- Along with the 3-run HR, Hector Veloz also went 3-4 last night, and he looks to extend his hitting streak to 3 games tonight.

The 22-year-old Austin Wynns was a 2013 10th round pick out of Fresno State, and Trey Mancini, 21, was a 2013 8th round pick out of Notre Dame. Look for both players to make a big impact in Aberdeen in 2013.

- The IronBirds go on a six-game road trip after tonight's game to play the Brooklyn Cyclones ( New York Mets affiliate) for 3 games and the Staten Island Yankees ( New York Yankees) for 3 games
