4 Issued Citations After Mailbox Explosion

The incident took place on Gilbert Road in Aberdeen Tuesday morning.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating an explosion that destroyed a mailbox in .

Criminal citations were issued to four unidentified males, according to a statement from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

The incident took place early Tuesday morning in the 700 block of Gilbert Road in Aberdeen. The State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene at 3:39 a.m. without required assistance from local fire departments and remained on the scene for approximately an hour, according to the fire marshal.

A "rural route mailbox" valued at $100 was destroyed in the explosion, which was discovered by the property owner.

There were no injuries reported.
