Aberdeen Police Add K-9 Program
German shepherd Maverick joins the Aberdeen Police Department this month.
The is adding a little bark to its bite.
Years after last having a K-9 program, Aberdeen has added a police patrol dog to the department. Maverick, a 2-year-old German Shepherd, was shipped from Europe and will join Aberdeen Police later this month, according to a release from Aberdeen police.
Maverick and OFC Charles Armetta have been partnered and are training with New Castle County (DE) police. The pair is due to graduate on July 12 following 24 weeks of instruction and training.

The news release stated: "Upon graduation Maverick will be nationally certified in narcotics detection, tracking and patrol tactics through the North American Police Work Dog Association. Maverick will be an intricate part of overall operations of APD. He is expected to contribute enormously in the detection of contraband and the apprehension of fleeing suspects. Officer Armetta and Maverick can also be seen demonstrating their skills at one of several police department community events held throughout the city."
