APG Sends 'Thoughts and Prayers' to Navy Yard Victims, Families

In the aftermath of the Navy Yard shootings, Aberdeen Proving Ground issued a statement Tuesday extending its condolences to those affected by the tragic events that unfolded Monday outside Washington, DC, leaving 13 people dead.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of the Navy Yard incident," Kelly Luster, chief of public affairs for Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), said Tuesday.

The proving ground advised its employees to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to APG Police and did not report any changes to security after Monday's shootings. 
"Our personnel remain vigilant and fully prepared to react to activities that may threaten our workforce, families and missions," Luster said.

According to Luster, it is standard procedure to keep mum about anything more specific.

"We do not discuss changes fundamental in preventing unfriendly elements from harming our most important assets, our service members, civilian employees and family members," Luster said. "The safety and well-being of our workforce is our highest priority."

Aberdeen Proving Ground is the largest employer in Harford County, with approximately 24,000 reporting to work there, according to the Harford County Economic Development Authority.

Regardless of any other measures, there will be one change at APG after the Navy Yard tragedy that is visible. President Barack Obama ordered that flags at the White House as well as military posts, naval installations, embassies and public grounds be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Friday.
