A malfunctioning appliance was the source of a fire Wednesday night at a Bel Air hotel, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

At 11:44 p.m. on Wednesday, fire erupted from a malfunctioning microwave in a room at the Candlewood Suites hotel in the 4200 block of Philadelphia Road, the fire marshal reported.

Sprinklers went off in the vicinity of the fire—which started in the kitchenette area inside the hotel room—and 15 firefighters from Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia and Aberdeen fire companies responded, bringing the fire under control within one minute, according to the report.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, the report said.

The blaze caused $30,000 in structural damage and $20,000 worth of items in the room were also lost, according to the report.

Hotel patrons were being assisted by neighboring hotels, the fire marshal said.

As of Thursday morning, the "hotel remains closed for extensive cleanup," according to the fire marshal.

This hotel is NOT in Bel Air. It is in Abingdon.

Once again, the Patch, like the Aegis, doesn't know yet that everything in Harford Co. Is not in BelAir. It is probably 5 miles from the BelAir boundary. If it was in BelAir, don't you think they might have shown up along with the other FDs listed. The area is Emmorton or if you like, Abingdon. No one is going to trust your articles if you constantly get the small, but easily documented, details in your stories!

Apparently, you kind folks are as ignorant of your geography as you accuse the Patch of being. If anything, this hotel is in Belcamp, not Abingdon; however, the US Postal Service places this facility in zip code 21015 — Bel Air. Check your next Cracker Barrel receipt if you don't believe me.
