The Bel Air woman shot as she was held hostage by her estranged husband Tuesday is in serious condition at shock trauma, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday.

Jamie Nicole Campbell, 28, of the 700 block of Hickory Limb Circle in Bel Air, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after an 11-hour negotiation between police and her husband, which ended when Campbell's husband shot her and police shot him, the sheriff's office reported.

The husband, Luis Arturo Hernandez Jr., 37, shot Campbell in the abdomen with a handgun, the sheriff's office said in a statement Wednesday.

Then tactical officers shot Hernandez, of the 9300 block of Perry Hall Boulevard, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

Hernandez had taken Campbell hostage in her Chevy Traverse on a dirt road across the street from Cedar Lane Regional Park, according to the sheriff's office.

Witness statements and detectives contributed to the determination that Hernandez shot his wife and officers shot Hernandez, the sheriff's office said.

Members involved in the tactical operation were placed on administrative leave pending further review of the incident, according to the sheriff's office, which reported this was standard procedure.

Just glad that the police had the balls to do there job, now my tax dollars do not have to support this POS in jail. He was a real gem of person, nice criminal record, a couple of pending cases, a real productive member of society. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim in this case, too many times with criminals we worry so much about there rights we forget about the victims!
