Police Identify Pedestrian Killed Crossing Route 40

The crash occurred near the Baltimore and Harford County line.

A Dundalk man was killed Friday afternoon while crossing US Route 40 near the Baltimore/Harford county line, police said.

Paul Robert Mack, 27, of the 6800 block of Broening Road, was walking on Route 40/Pulaski Highway at 3:32 p.m. when he was hit by a 2007 Honda Accord that was headed west, police said.

Mack was not in the crosswalk when he was struck by the Accord, which was passing from Harford into Baltimore County, according to police.

When first responders arrived, the driver was at the location and Mack was lying in the street with traumatic injuries, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department, which said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

All westbound lanes of Route 40 were closed past Jones Road as of 4:09 p.m., according to transportation officials, while eastbound lanes on Route 40 were reportedly open. Westbound lanes reopened at 6:55 p.m., WBAL reported.

The Baltimore County Police Department said it was actively investigating the crash.

It is sad that this man is dead, but it is encouraging that the driver who hit him did the right thing and remained at the scene. Rt 40 in that area is not a great place to try to cross.
