UPDATE: 1 Dead in Edgewood Fire

Crews were responding to a fire in Edgewood Friday evening.

UPDATE (12:25 a.m.)—One person was pronounced dead at the scene as Harford County firefighters battled a blaze in an Edgewood townhouse early Friday evening.

The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company confirmed the death in an email to Patch just after 11 p.m. Friday. Explore Harford cited a State Fire Marshal's report that a 5-year-old boy had died.

Initial reports indicated that two people were trapped inside a middle-of-group townhome in the Harford Square development, according to Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner.

Gardiner posted on the association's Facebook page that crews from Joppa, Abingdon and Aberdeen Proving Ground responded to a fire at the residence on the K Court in the 1400 block of Charlestown Drive, off Harford Square Dr.

More than 40 volunteers and four career firefighters from APG were on the scene, according to a release from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. That statement indicated Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company also responded.

Maryland State Police Homicide Division and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the blaze.

Stay with Patch for updates.

My prayers go out to the little boy who lost his life before it began and his family. I couldnt even imagine losing my child that way. God, please be with the family and friends and all the lives this destroyed forever. Amen!

Those houses in Harford Square must be made out of cardboard. When I lived in Woodbridge Center we saw another house over there catch fire, a child died in that fire too. Such a shame, prayers go out to this boy's family.

What do you mean before it began rob

I feel bad for the boys Mother and Sister. From what I am hearing from a source who responded to the fire it is being investigated as a homicide. The fire was started to cover up the death of the young boy who is Autistic. I was told the Father is currently their number one suspect. Probably why in the bottom of the article is says the State Police Homicide Division is investigating.

Ummm excuse me Mr. TommyC but this was my friends child. I am very close with her and her husband who has had had custody of his eldest son since he was a newborn. He is a kind and gentile man and he is not capable of the things your are suggesting, so kindly on their behalf please kiss my a$$. You don't know what you are talking about and it is just rude and inconsiderate to speculate this nonsense while the family has only just begun to grieve.

My sympathies to this family. Is there any information about how to help them? As for TommyC: In my experience, any comment starting with "From what I hear" is generally going to be an ill informed, unfounded, gossip mongering affair. Homicide often investigates anytime a death is not a natural one, or there is no attending physician. If you were not heartlessly 'trolling' this comment thread, then you ought to consider more mature, informed, and compassionate ways to converse (whether online or in person).

Ted Bundy was a kind and gentle man and he killed over 60 girls! What you know an what happens on the other side of a families door ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS! Just saying

A child died, can we focus on the tragedy of that and stop your grandstanding?? My prayers to the family suffering from this tragedy.

For those who speak before they think. This man went back in the house to try to save his son. How would you feel if you tried to save your child and you were unable. Then their are A__holes like yourselves talking about a homcide. I know this family. Besides what you think do matter . Homcide is on every fire investigation. If your NOT on the case as an investigator you have NO opinion and you DON'T MATTER. All my blessing and prayers to the family.

When a person is intoxicated there judgement is very poor maybe that's why when he went back in he couldn't save the poor baby! Put all the facts out there if your going to put any at all! The whole neighborhood saw how this played out!!! Prayers for the mother she lost her baby! No not all deaths in fires are ruled as homicide I am a criminal justice major! Either way all person are innocent until proven guilty in a court of LAW!
