I-95 North Reopened after Hazmat Cleanup on Tydings Bridge

A crash that resulted in a fuel spill backed up traffic for several hours Friday evening.

UPDATE (Nov. 16, 9:45 p.m.)—After a fuel spill on Interstate 95, emergency personnel closed northbound lanes on Tydings Bridge during the Friday evening rush hour.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a collision and found a crash involving a passenger car and moving truck, Susquehanna Hose Company Chief Scott Hurst said.

For an unknown reason, the sedan went out of control and hit the 26,000-pound truck, police told The Baltimore Sun. Then the truck ran into a jersey wall on the bridge, resulting in the oil spill, WJZ Channel 13 reported.

"Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled all over the road, for about a quarter mile," according to Hurst.

Northbound traffic was being diverted onto Route 155, said Hurst. "It will probably be like that for at least one to two hours," he said, speaking with Patch at approximately 6:20 p.m.

The incident was cleared by 9 p.m. Friday, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Nobody was injured, Hurst told Patch.

As of 6:20 p.m., the State Highway Administration was on its way with a sand truck and a sweeper truck to clear the road, Hurst said.

The Harford County hazardous material team was also en route to pump the remaining 40 gallons of fuel from the truck, according to Hurst.

Southbound traffic was reportedly moving smoothly.

Original report at 5:50 p.m.

Traffic did not appear to be moving northbound on Interstate 95 due to a crash just before 6 p.m. Friday, according to live traffic cameras from the State Highway Administration.

There was a motor vehicle collision involving injuries near mile marker 90.3 on I-95, reported the Harford County Md Fire & EMS PIO Media Page.

Just escaped that mess. We were stuck on 95 just south of the Millard Tydings Bridge. They just evacuated it and let us all off onto 95 S through a break in the barrier. That was at 6:45. We were stuck for 1 hour. Traffic still. Rey heavy. Take route 1 or 40
