Part of Route 40 in Edgewood Reopens after Fatal Crash

The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

After nearly four hours, US Route 40 in Edgewood was cleared following a fatal crash.

Eastbound lanes of Route 40 between Sand Pebble Drive and West Shore Drive had been closed due to the two-vehicle crash, which occurred at 6:27 a.m.; by 10:20 a.m., all lanes were open, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

A vehicle overturned on Route 40 near Sand Pebble Drive and at least one person was trapped inside, according to Harford County Fire & EMS.

Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company advised steering clear of the area for the morning: "It would be a good idea to avoid US-40/Pulaski Hwy between 24 & 543 for several hours due to fatal crash at Sand Pebble Dr."
