Police Release Video In Vi Ripken Abduction Case

The matriarch of the Ripken family was abducted last week and the investigation is ongoing.

Police have today released video and plan to release a composite sketch of the man suspected of last week.

The video, released by investigators, shows the suspect at a retail establishment in Anne Arundel County. Later in the day police are expected to release a composite sketch of based on eyewitness accounts.

Lt. Fred Budnick with the wrote in an email Tuesday that no specific motive has been indentified in the alleged abduction.

"This is still considered to be a forced abduction not related to any medical or health conditions," Budnick wrote.

Aberdeen police said a man armed with a handgun—described as in his late 30s or early 40s wearing a light colored shirt, camouflage pants and glasses—forced Ripken into her vehicle between 7 and 8 a.m. July 24. The vehicle fled the area, police said.

Ripken, 74, was found safely with her hands bound in the back of her car July 25 after being driven around the Baltimore metro region, police said during a.

Leslie unless you actually know Vi keep your ugly mouth SHUT! I have known Vi and her family since 1978 and she would NEVER do anything like this. She loves her family and would never do anything like this. She gets all the attention she needs just by doing ALL the charitable things she does. You lady (& I use the term loosely) need to keep you disgusting comments to yourself!!!!!
John S Landbeck Jr July 31, 2012 at 07:07 PM
You, quite obviously, do not know this lady, or of her character, or you would never have made that comment; it just shows how ignorant some people can be!

Courtney, to paraphrase Rodney King, "Can't we all just get literate?" The word is ABSURD. (Your points not withstanding.)
Leslie Schildgen July 31, 2012 at 08:36 PM
I guess the First Amendment only applies to happiegrannie and not to me. So much for putting a story out there and cherry picking who gets posted.
Leslie Schildgen July 31, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Courtney, Bob Allen is attacking your spelling and missing your point. Thanks for having the nerve to agree with my post before Sean pulled my comment as inappropriate. It is definately all about who you know. Only the opinions that are in favor of finding a kidnapper are welcome on this blog.
James Foley July 31, 2012 at 08:48 PM
Where the heck was she when the dude was shopping at Walmart?
HappieGrannie July 31, 2012 at 08:52 PM
So Courtney you have "heard" she has a track record for "all sorts of things" interesting. All I have ever seen her do is take care of her family, & community. Something wrong with that? And to Leslie what difference does it make who I am? The people I care about know me by this name so that's all that matters.

James have you not listened to anything the news or police said. She was tied up with duck tape and had a piece over her mouth. Oh yes also she was held at GUNPOINT!!!!! I would have done what he said to and I am know for not listening and doing what I want but with a gun pointed at me I would have listened. Also someone noticed her tied up and reported it to police in Essex but they were gone by the time they got there.
Chas Trone August 01, 2012 at 04:08 AM
He's clearly not wearing camoflauge pants in this video-as he was described earlier. Did he change his clothes too? His hat was not mentioned at all-did she not see it? And why the vague description : "light colored shirt"? It was clearly a white,button-down,long sleeved shirt worn over another (blue?) collared shirt. All or most of the facts are not being reported, but something just doesn't seem right here.
Leslie Schildgen August 01, 2012 at 01:03 PM
You don't think unhappygrannie's comments towards me are defamatory, abusive, obscene profane and offensive? Man. . . you need to check your double standard

Careful Chas. . . unhappiegrannie is going to unload on you and your comment will be deleted by Sean as defamatory, abusive, obscene profane and offensive

Bottom line.....Mrs Ripken is home and safe and her family can rest knowing she is fine:)
HappieGrannie August 01, 2012 at 09:36 PM
Leslie: you need to grow up and stop throwing temper tantrums because you aren't getting your way. Chas: I want to see how accurate your description is of the guy who holds you at gunpoint
James Foley August 05, 2012 at 03:00 AM
I don't think you read my post right crazygrannie, what was she doing while he was in Walmart shopping? You don't think he taped the doors closed on the car do you?
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Wow! What is wrongn with happiegrannie? Not so happy sounding to me. You have been so "abusive" here (towards ANYONE that doesn't believe this whole kidnapping story). You said yourself that this poor woman was DUCK (which is really DUCT) taped and her mouth was covered. If that were true, how come NOBODY noticed this in the parking lot? And, if so--why didn't ANYONE park in front or back of the "suspicious" vehicle with an elderly woman in the back--blindfolded, duCT taped and her mouth taped shut? This story does not make ANY sense at all. If I saw a vehicle with a person in the backseat (blindfolded and mouth taped), I would--first of all--block the vehicle in, call 911, or, better yet, I'd immediately FOLLOW this individual. And, how about the "mystery" person that reported this to the police? Did this person have no morals? Again--had I seen this or thought it was suspicious, I would have gotten on my cell phone and called 911 (all the while FOLLOWING this vehicle until the police caught up with this person). So, sorry--this story sounds as fishy as when I heard the Casey Anthony story. I didn't believe HER story for one minute either (that her daughter was kidnapped). I KNEW she was guilty. Yet, like so many people in this world--there were 12 jurors who believed her innocence (despite ALL of the damaging evidence against her--even little Caylee's dead body that was kept in the trunk of Casey's car). Anyhow, grannie--please chill out.
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 06:33 PM
Also, I cut and pasted this from the police: In a statement released Wednesday, Aberdeen police said a man armed with a handgun—described as in his late 30s or early 40s wearing a light colored shirt, camouflage pants and glasses—forced Ripken into her vehicle between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle fled the area, police said. LOOK CLOSELY AT THE VIDEO! I have to agree with the other comment in here. The man in the video was NOT wearing camouflage pants. So, I guess he changed his pants (so as not to be recognized), right? But, why didn't he take off the hat and glasses and change his shirt, too? That would make sense. It would also make sense that, had this been "pre-meditated" (as Cal thinks), he would have already had food and cigarettes, etc. (so, he wouldn't have had to stop at the local Walmart). Really! If you're going to "kidnap" someone, why would the guy stop at a store and leave Ms. Ripkenn in the back seat (blindfolded, mouth duCT taped and hands tied behind her back) for ALL of the world to see??? See how none of this makes sense? Also, he would NOT have gone back to the scene of the crime to "drop her off." He would have gone somewhere HE wanted to go, and just got out of the car and left. Supposedly, the Aberdeen Police were ALL OVER THIS NEIGHBORHOOD at the time. So, why didn't the police or anyone else see the alleged "perp" drive up to the scene?
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 06:40 PM
Oh--one more very important note to point out. To file a "missing person's report" on an ADULT (ANY ADULT), that person MUST be missing for at least 24 hours. Only children are searched for immediately! But, seeing that Ms. Ripken was not missing for 24 hours yet, why would the police begin a search for her? Just because she is Cal Ripken, Jr.'s mother (let's not forget Bill, Fred, and Ellen's mother, too), why the special attention? She is not anymore important than any other ADULT that goes missing. Don't believe me? Try reporting to the police that someone (one of your children over the age of 18 is missing). The first question they will ask you is, "WHEN did they go missing?" If you say 12 hours or so, they will tell you they cannot do ANYTHING until they've been "missing" for 24 hours or longer. And, sorry happiegrannie--but, the Police/news reports NEED NOT report Cal's STATS with the Orioles when referring to this alleged "kidnapping" story. THAT has NOTHING to do with this case at all. Why the "free publicity" about Cal's bio? It's ridiculous!! I thought this had to do with "VI" and NOT "Cal."
Leslie Schildgen August 07, 2012 at 06:49 PM
unhappy grannie you've got nerve: You're the one who threw a temper tantrum when I first commented on this fiasco. In fact, your comment to me was the most hostile I have read so far. Of course your buddy, Sean deleted all evidence of YOUR rant.
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 07:05 PM
Don't worry about "unhappy" grannie, Leslie. She's VERY bitter. And, yeah--you have me as your witness. I saw her ugly rants. So, yes--she is the first one who threw a temper tantrum. Apparently, unless we ALL agree with this "grannie," (who could be Vi for all we know, or her "friend"), we're on the you-know-what list. I have always said this story doesn't add up. And, I will continue to say that. Unless they actually catch a guy (which they won't--you, Courtney, I, and some others know why), hold a public trial, I will never believe this. A kidnapper who comes "prepared" with duct tape and a blindfold and rope to tie her hands behind her back would also come prepared with food, cigarettes, etc. He's not going to be stupid enough to leave a woman blindfolded, gagged, etc. in the back seat while he takes a trip through a Walmart (or wherever). He's also not going to be so stupid with all of Aberdeen Police surrounding the neighborhood to drive up in HER vehicle and leave her in the same location where he allegedly "abducted" her. Apparently, some people believe everything people say. These are like the 12 jurors in Florida that believed Casey Anthony was innocent. The facts were all there out in the open; yet, there ARE people who believed Casey when she said her poor daughter was "kidnapped." And, the same will continue with other cases. So sad; but true. I guess grannie is just upset that we don't believe in this story. Oh well. What can you do? :D
Leslie Schildgen August 07, 2012 at 07:28 PM
Laura: I can't believe those idiot jurors in the Casey Anthony case. They didn't even find her guilty of child endangerment.
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 08:07 PM
Hey Leslie--I hope you're having a good day! And, yeah--those jurors weren't "thinking." So much evidence was stacked against her; i.e., the home computer had "How to make chloroform" on it, "How to break someone's neck," etc. The same duct tape used over her daughter's mouth was found at the Anthony home; the same EXACT heart-shaped stickers were also found at the home (like the one placed over the duct tape where the mouth was); the Anthony's pets were buried in the same exact location the body was found; and, oh--let's not forget how she made up the whole story about "Zannie the Nannie" who kidnapped her daughter, the fact that Casey didn't report her child even "missing" for 31 days, and the biggest clue of all--they said that little Caylee's body had been in Casey's TRUNK (due to the smell of death, the chloroform that was detected in there, as well as strands of Caylee's hair). Yeah--why did those stupid jurors not see her as GUILTY? Sure--everyone puts their kids in the trunk of their cars, right? Leslie--Obviously I'm being "sarcastic" about everyone putting their kids in trunks. I know that you're intelligent enough to know that I'm being sarcastic. But, you know as well as I do--there are certain people in here that cannot take a joke or just cannot tell if you're being sarcastic or not. LOL. I know--not a laughing matter; but, this story of "kidnapping" sounds fictitious (sp?) to me. Watching out for the grammar police. LOL.
Laura Jackson August 07, 2012 at 08:13 PM
Oh--wow--Leslie--My hubby just walked in the door. He wasn't supposed to get home until later tonight. Anyhow, he wants to take me out to dinner. Yay!! Hey--who am I to argue with that? A night out? Sounds like a plan to me. Haven't heard from Courtney in a while. I hope these people haven't run her out of here. After all, we are all entitled to say what's on our minds. I'm willing to hear from the people who "believe" this story. It doesn't bother me in the least. What does bother me is all the media attention this story is getting (when more important issues are still pending--such as REAL murderers at large, etc.). And, the victims of THOSE cases do not get billboards to search for the perps. Oh well. Such is life. I'd better get off of here before my hubby changes his mind about going out for dinner though, Leslie. Have a great evening! Don't let anyone get you down--especially the bitter grannie. Okay? :-D
