Aberdeen Woman in Serious Condition After Being Hit by Van in Crosswalk

Police have charged the 88-year-old van driver.

An Aberdeen pedestrian was in serious condition Tuesday after being hit in the crosswalk on US Route 40 at West Bel Air Avenue, police said.

At 11:15 a.m., a 57-year-old woman was crossing the eastbound lanes of Route 40 when she was hit by a van, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Police said that Aberdeen Fire Department paramedics transported the woman, who lived in the 200 block of Mayberry Drive, to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.

The Aberdeen man who was driving the 2006 Ford van was not injured, police said. Bruce Lipscomb, 88, of the 400 block of Lorraine Street, was charged with failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to police.

Rich Gardiner of Harford County Fire & EMS said eastbound lanes on Route 40 were closed at West Bel Air Avenue at approximately 11:35 a.m. They reopened Tuesday afternoon.
