Seagull Drive Fire Caused $250K in Damage, Fire Marshal Says
Approximately 50 firefighters were called to put out the blaze near Perryman.
A fire that destroyed a Perryman home and camper over the weekend was ruled accidental, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office reported Sunday.
The owner of the residence in the 300 block of Seagull Drive was using a propane torch to clear out weeds when the fire began at 3:33 p.m. Saturday, according to the report.
The propane torch ignited a tree and the front of the two-story home, according to the report.
Fifty firefighters—from Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Ground, the Susquehanna Hose Company, Abingdon and Joppa-Magnolia—responded to the blaze, which took one hour to extinguish, according to the fire marshal.
The fire caused $200,000 in damage to the home and $50,000 in damage to what was inside, the report stated.
After the fire, the residents who lived in the home were being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to the fire marshal.
