Aberdeen police said the mother stabbed the daughter with a kitchen knife.

An Aberdeen woman faces assault charges after police said she stabbed her daughter at her home Tuesday during a family dispute. The daughter was hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

At 3:30 p.m., authorities responded to the 100 block of William Powell Court for a reported stabbing between a mother and daughter, according to a statement from the Aberdeen Police Department. Police said they found the 27-year-old daughter, whose residence was across town in the 100 block of Hamilton Street, with a stab wound to her upper back.

Gwendolyn McNeil, 48, of the 100 block of William Powell Court, was charged with first and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident involving her daughter, police said.

According to police, McNeil's daughter "became involved in a family argument with her mother.... during the argument, McNeil stabbed [the daughter] with a kitchen knife."

Officers provided first aid for the daughter until Aberdeen Fire Department paramedics arrived, the statement said. The daughter was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

According to the report, McNeil was not injured.

Police said McNeil would be taken to the Harford County Detention Center for a bond review.
